What is “Superhero Therapy?”

The need for sound, evidence-based therapy and medical treatment for young people who have experienced trauma or abuse is astounding. For example, in 2014, Children’s Advocacy Centers served more than 311,000 children across the country. Of those receiving services, two-thirds disclosed sexual abuse (205,438) and almost 20% disclosed physical abuse (60,897). When we include kids that have suffered other forms of trauma or struggle with anxiety, the need is even greater.

Waiting 3-6 months to be seen by a Board-Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or a Therapist is unacceptable. Further, no child should ever be treated like a chemistry experiment by their medical provider.

There is a better way. Superhero Therapy, based on the work of Dr. Janina Scarlet, uses evidence-based Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Further, this therapy, sometimes coupled with a very conservative medical approach, can help your child overcome behavioral and other consequences of a traumatic past and help them achieve their full potential.

We use Superhero Therapy in our work with children and teens, sometimes coupled with a very conservative medical approach, to help clients overcome behavioral and other consequences of a traumatic past and help them achieve their full potential.  In addition, we sometimes help children put their new skills to work in the form of roll playing games, such as Dungeons and Dragons.

Our sessions are conducted through a telemedicine video connection, so clients can call in from their home — no need to drive to an office.
